NOTE: Parties wishing to file pleadings may drop them into the mail slot of the front door of the office. A reminder that a party wishing to file a Petition of Eviction should review the Map of JP Jurisdiction linked below to ensure the property is located in the territorial boundaries of the court. Judge Sanders is not performing marriage ceremonies at this time. Please contact one of the other Justices of the Peace. Their contact information can be found on brla.gov.
Office Hours and Calendar
Generally, office hours are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
The office will be closed June 5 and 26, 2026.
Important!!!
HB 708 was passed in the 2026 Regular legislative session and has become Acts 950 effective August 1, 2026. The law greatly expands the territorial jurisdictions and designates the Justices of the Peace in East Baton Rouge Parish as Districts 1 through 6. Effective 08/01/26, all of EBRP will be covered by 6 JP's so that small claim matters, including evictions, may be filed with a Justice of the Peace. A link to the new territorial jurisdictions is linked below, and starting on that date, Ward 3 District 2 will become District 5. There are some important boundary changes so be sure to check the map before you attempt to file pleadings.
